French language proficiency test for immigration

The TCF (Test de Connaissance du Français) is an official French language proficiency test. It is designed for non-native speakers who want to assess their French language skills. Similar to the IELTS (International English Language Testing System), there are different versions of the TCFs for various purposes, including academic, professional, or immigration requirements.

Main Versions of the TCF
- TCF Canada: Required for immigration or obtaining Canadian citizenship.
- TCF Québec: Specifically for immigration to Québec.
- TCF Tout Public (TP): Used for personal, professional, or academic reasons.
- TCF IRN: Designed for French nationality or long-term residency in France.
TCF Canada - Test Format & Structure
- Listening: 39 multiple-choice questions / 35 minutes.
- Reading: 39 multiple-choice questions / 60 minutes.
- Writing: 3 exercises / 60 minutes
- Speaking: 3-task interview with an examiner / ~ 15 minutes
For TCF Canada, all four components are mandatory and must be taken on the same day.
Registration and Results
- Registration: Sessions are held year-round at approved centers, Candidates must contact an approved TCF center to register.
- Results: Results are typically available within 15 working days, and certificates are valid for 2 years.
TCF is not an easy test. However, with a suitable practice strategy, one will be able to archive the desirable results.
